GREAT Press Release Re: Apr. 26, 2016 Incident
April 27, 2016
For immediate release
GRAND RIVER EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING INC.’S STATEMENT IN REGARD TO APRIL 26, 2016 INCIDENT
Grand River Employment and Training Inc. own the GREAT Opportunity Centre. The building is a place for creating opportunities for our community members. Our cultural teachings of peace and respect are its foundation.
We expect our tenants, staff, students, and visitors to adhere to our zero violence policy.
On April 26, 2016 there was an incident between a tenant and members of a community group. Our building and grounds are not the place to resolve issues in this manner.
The impact after two days is that three training programs had to be re-located off site to ensure student safety. As well, our training programs have been disrupted and funders are questioning our ability to meet our mandate. Staff, tenants and clients are feeling unsafe, threatened and unable to carry on with business. Impacts have also been felt by our neighbours, the Youth Lodge and 2nd Stage Housing.
We request that the parties involved respect their fellow community members right to a peaceful and safe environment and refrain from attending the GREAT building and surrounding area.
The safety and well-being of our staff, students, tenants, and community members remains our primary concern.
Employment Results for March 2016.
