Apprenticeship Skills Training
Objective
To enhance and ensure the successful completion of apprenticeship training as
per ministry requirements.
Eligible Participants
Six Nations Band Members who are registered apprentices with
the Ministry of Education and Training. Eligible Employers Employers who meet
apprenticeship guidelines.
Must be in recognized trade set out by the Ministry guidelines.
Must be registered with Grand River Employment and Training (G.R.E.A.T.)Employer
Requirements
Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)
For students who are currently enrolled in high school and who are at least 16
years old and have at least 16 high school credits can enrol for OYAP through their
high
school. If you are interested in this and you are a student contact your high school
Coop Teacher for details. Remeber that you will need to identify this when you are
selecting your courses for the year and that you have transportation to and from your
OYAP placement. This program is for students interested in doing a work placement in
an apprenticeship area.
Employers must have
- Revenue Canada Taxation number to remit an individual's Employment Insurance
Benefits.
- Proper bookkeeping practices and policies in place.
- Third party liability or WSIB coverage
Detailed training plans must be submitted insuring compliance with
apprenticeship standards.
Financial Assistance
- First Year on the job training - 60% of wages.
- Second Year on the job training - 50% of wages.
- No Mandatory Employment Related Costs provided.
- Special costs for tools, specifically for apprenticeship designated trade -
up to $450 based on trade.
- Special costs related to disabled participants may be provided if
required.
Duration
Negotiable, up to two years based on the trade and the need of the client.
Maximum of up to 2 years.
