Career Experience / Job Shadowing
Objective
The Career Experience Program is designed to assist participants in assessing their skills and identifying a career goal.
The program will provide participants with opportunities to access prior learning assessments and job shadowing experience through training on the job with selected coordinators (employers).
Expected Results
An identified career goal.
A Coordinator (employer) evaluation identifying participant strengths and weaknesses in terms of job skills.
Eligible Participants
Six Nations members.
No longer required by law to attend school.
Unemployed.
Employed and in need of a career change.
Individual must be registered with Grand River Employment and Training (G.R.E.A.T.)
Individual will provide a resume to G.R.E.A.T. at the discretion of the Program and Services Officer, (PSO) after assessment has been completed.
Eligible Coordinators (Employers)
Businesses.
Organizations.
Coordinators who agree to provide job shadowing to a participant will be provided with an in kind contribution by G.R.E.A.T
Financial Assistance
Participants may be entitled to receive E.I. benefits if eligible, or a training allowance while in the Career Experience Program-as outlined below:
Special costs related to a disabled participant may be available if required.
Training allowances
Training allowances depend on a participant’s circumstances. Allowances are paid at a weekly rate based upon 25 hours per week or more spent on-the-job.
Dependant Care Allowance
While on training, a participant may qualify for a dependent care allowance to pay for supervised care of dependants. The amount will depend on the number of dependants needing care and the number of hours of supervision required.
Commuting Allowance
Participants are eligible for a
$.075 / km
commuting allowance or a
$56.60 bus pass
while in the program and only if required up to a
maximum of $125
per week.
Restrictions:
Individuals may participate in the Career Experience Program on a one-time basis.
Special costs related to a disabled participant may be available if required.
Duration
Up to a
maximum of six (6) weeks.
[two (2) weeks x 3 Coordinators or any combination to a maximum of six (6) weeks.]
