Community Based Skills Maintenance
Objective
The Community-Based Skills Maintenance Program is designed to ensure that skills
acquired by Six Nations members either through training programs or employment
are maintained or enhanced between jobs. The program is designed to benefit
sponsoring organizations and businesses as well as program participants.
Eligible Participants
Unemployed individuals - Six Nations Band Members who are either eligible to
receive or are receiving Employment Insurance benefits (E.I.) and those who have
received E.I. in the last three years on a regular claim or in
the last five years on a special claim. Individual must be registered with Grand River Employment and Training
(G.R.E.A.T.)
Individual will provide a resume to G.R.E.A.T. at the discretion of the Programs
and Services Officer, (PSO) after assessment has been completed.
Eligible Coordinators (Employers)
Businesses, Organizations that benefit the community, Public Health and
Educational Institutions.
Employers must have:
- Proper bookkeeping practices and policies in place.
- Third party liability or WSIB coverage.
Financial Assistance
- Participants may receive regular or enhanced E.I. benefits in place of wages
up to $413 per participant week. The employer may “top-up” the
participants wage rate if the enhanced E.I. is less than the
prevailing wage rate associated with the job. The total amount paid to any
participant may not exceed the prevailing wage rate in the area for the
occupation.
- Private sector sponsors contribute 100% of the total project
cost excluding participant benefits.
- Public Sector sponsors can access WCB coverage and very limited overhead costs.
- A participant in receipt of E.I. benefits must have staffing authorization from
G.R.E.A.T.
- A “reach back” participant will receive income support in place of wages from
the employer.
- Special costs related to a disabled participant may be provided
when required.
Duration
Projects will normally last between a minimum of (6) six weeks
and up to maximum of fifty-two (52) weeks.
