Summer Challenge Program
Objective
To provide an opportunity for secondary students ages 16 – 17 years to develop
skills through on the job training.
To provide local businesses/organizations with summer help.
To encourage personal development through life skills, job readiness training
while stressing the importance of staying in school.
Eligible Employers
Community agencies/businesses with good credibility in respect to being able to
offer a safe, supervised, positive work environment.
Employers offering work experience geared toward career goals.
Some experience working with students or youth.
Eligible Participants
Six Nations Band Member.
Secondary students ages 16 – 17 as identified by school
counsellors.
Financial Parameters
Wage subsidy equal to student minimum wage for on the job training, attending
job readiness, life skills and other training workshops.
Special costs related to disabled participant may be provided if
required.
Coordinator (one per project) is eligible for up to $19.00 / hr (MERCs are
covered)
Other costs may be covered where required.
Duration
Maximum of eight (8) weeks.
Minimum 30-hour work week - Maximum 40-hour work week.
Criteria
Detailed training plan must be submitted.
Safety guidelines should be in place.
Must have a Revenue Canada Taxation number to remit an individual’s Employment
Insurance Benefits.
Third party liability or WSIB coverage required.
Proper bookkeeping practices and policies must be in place.
Coordinator must have life skills certification or equivalent.
Minimum of 10 students per project.
