Youth Community Based Projects
Objective
To develop work opportunities for youth, Six Nations Band Members, who face greater barriers to entering the labour market through participation in meaningful community service projects.
Offer youth valuable job and life skills while strengthening the sense of accomplishment and attachment to their community.
To provide support for innovative projects for youth that will respond to their need for community based activities and involvement.
Eligible Sponsors
- Businesses, organizations (including not for profit, employer, professional and labour associations), public health and educational institutions, band council.
Eligible Participants
- Youth up to the age of 30, who are unemployed, out of school, Six Nations Band Members, lacking grade 12, limited work experience or career direction, and legally entitled to work in Canada.
Financial Assistance
- Wages for youth – for profit sector eligible for up to 60% to a maximum of regular minimum wage.
- Non profit sector eligible for up to 100% up to a maximum of regular minimum wage. (MERCs are covered)
- Other costs may be covered where required.
- Coordinator (one per project) is eligible for up to $15.00 per hour. MERCS are covered.
- Special costs related to disabled participant may be provided if required.
- Completion bonus for youth up to a maximum of $500.00 may be available.
Duration
- Minimum of 26 weeks to a maximum of 40 weeks (Dependent upon project objectives)
- Minimum 30-hour work week – maximum 40-hour work week.
Criteria
- Comply with applicable employment related federal statutes.
- Employers must have a Revenue Canada Taxation number to remit individuals’ Unemployment Insurance benefits .
- Employers must have proper bookkeeping practices and policies in place.
- Employers must maintain adequate coverage under WSIB or equivalent.
- Ensure that no regular full time or part time employees are displaced in any way.
- Detailed work plan – must include life skills development for the youth group.
- Real and meaningful responsibilities and a commitment to adequate supervision, regular instruction and sufficient opportunity to learn job duties.
- Service to the Community.
- Priority given to Youth Community Based Projects that result in full time employment.
- Program Coordinator must have life skills certification or equivalent.
